Private Tours of Fremantle waters - where we go...
We promote the fact that there is much more to Perth and Fremantle's ocean attractions than a visit to Rottnest.
Our specialty is exploring the entire area of the Google Map which can be accessed from this page (below) - all three local Perth islands - Rottnest, Carnac and Garden Islands – and accessing the ‘coastal highway’ from Rockingham to Hilarys Marina encompassing Cockburn Sound and the coastline off Perth’s northern suburbs.
Without a doubt Rottnest Island is the most popular destination for day trips, weekend getaways and holidays for both local and overseas visitors with approximately 500,000 people visiting Rottnest Island each year.
The island, which is mainly a nature reserve, is located 17 kilometres from Fremantle with sailing time between one and two hours from Fremantle depending on the wind direction and speed and where we are going on the island.
Rottnest is well renowned for its stunning beaches, bays and coral reefs – the most southerly in the world. The island is a haven for water based activities – sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling, surfing and scuba diving – so access from the ocean aboard Escapade is an ideal way to experience this beautiful place.
Carnac Island is the smaller island that lies between Rottnest and Garden islands. It is an A Class nature reserve about 10 kilometres off Fremantle with sailing time of around an hour.
The island is home to a sea lion colony and a large variety of marine bird life. We anchor in the crystal clear waters of the island allowing you to enjoy the scenery and wildlife, take a refreshing swim, go snorkeling or paddle our kayaks for an explore.
Further to the south is Garden Island which is one of Australia’s largest naval bases and home to Australia’s fleet of Collins Class submarines.
The Cliff Point historic site, in a beautiful bay on the east side of the island, is the location of the first settlement in Western Australia. In 1827, it was the first site inhabited by ‘free settlers’ who were led by Captain James Stirling's - WA's first governor. The settlers occupied this site for two months before moving to the Swan River on the mainland.
Escapade regularly sails from Fremantle to this location and several other idyllic spots around the island - the cruise takes just over one hour from our Fremantle location and it is common for us to encounter the pod of dolphins who live in Cockburn Sound on our way there and back.
